6 tips for a healthier diet and life

Now that the New Year has started to set in, many of us must have followed through with our resolutions.

However, some people pledge to lead a better lifestyle the next year and yet

are unable to do it.

If you’re also one of them, don’t worry. Unfortunately, only 8% of people manage to stick by their resolutions throughout the year.

But when it comes to having a healthy diet and life, you can’t compromise on those things, right?

So here are some tips for you to make sure you jump back straight on the healthy wagon!

1. Consume fewer sugar-based drinks

Drinks like soda pop and cola might seem very refreshing, especially during the summer, but it causes a lot of harm to your body.

Children, especially, are prone to non-alcoholic fatty liver problems if they drink too many aerated drinks.

Even sweetened tea or coffee is said to cause heart disease and diabetes, among other ailments. So, people who don’t have excess body fat should also limit the number of sugary drinks they consume in a week.

If you’re looking for healthy alternatives, try sparkling water, unsweetened tea or coffee, and healthy fruit juices.

2. Never skip breakfast

You’re mistaken if you believe that skipping breakfast leads to weight loss. On the contrary, scientists consider breakfast to be the most important meal of the day, and skipping it will only mess up your digestive system.

Even if you don’t have enough time to make a grand breakfast, whip up something simple and ensure you’re full before leaving the house.

For example, you can purchase a packet of GF Oats Australia and prepare a hearty meal within minutes. Then, cut up some fresh seasonal fruits and have them after the oats. This healthy breakfast makes you more energetic and mentally fit too.

3. Check your blood pressure

Nowadays, one of the most common diseases in adults is hypertension or high blood pressure. It’s also called the silent killer because many patients don’t even realize they have it.

This is why you must check your blood pressure regularly, at least once every few days, to ensure the levels are fine.

If your hypertension is left uncontrolled, it can lead to heart attacks, stroke, or even kidney malfunctions.

If you can’t monitor your blood pressure by yourself, ask someone in your family to check it for you or consult your local physician.

4. Cut down on harmful substances

No matter how healthy you eat, if you keep consuming alcohol, cigarettes, or drugs, your health is bound to deteriorate very quickly.

While cutting down on addictive substances can be tough, it’s important to tell yourself that maintaining a proper lifestyle is much more important.

Unfortunately, there is no safe limit when it comes to drinking alcohol or consuming drugs. Moreover, it can lead to alcohol dependence, which causes your entire life to get messed up.

Nicotine and tobacco products, too, kill both the consumer as well as those around them.

5. Avoid processed food

Ultra-processed food items are those that can be found in cans or have ingredients significantly modified from their original form.

Almost all these food items contain processed sugar, highly-refined oil, excess amounts of salt, and harmful preservatives and colors.

Some of the most common processed food are fast foods like burgers, snacked cakes, chips, and frozen dishes.

Since so many people worldwide enjoy them, quitting eating junk food is tough. Nevertheless, they lead to obesity and other chronic problems, so it’s best to limit or quit them altogether.

6. Stay active

Besides eating mindfully, it’s also important to work out daily to maintain a healthy digestive system.

Exercising not only refreshes your body but your mind, too, leading to better absorption and digestion.

You can first calculate your BMI and then check the types of exercises that will be most suitable for you.

If you can’t join a gym or go outdoors to work out, buy some simple gym equipment like a foldable treadmill and exercise right at home.

Or practice brisk walking twice daily, once early in the morning and once in the afternoon.

Everyone wants to lead a healthy lifestyle but gives up because they grow tired of regular healthy practices. Or some even can’t give up on their favorite junk food.

But you must stay patient and determined. Take baby steps and motivate yourself with rewards for when you fulfill your goals. And you’ll make a great difference in no time!
