Different and delicious shrimp dishes

If you are a shrimp lover, it is sure you are always looking for new ways of cooking it. Shrimp has a soft meat and delicate flavor that remembers the sea. It is used as a subtle accompaniment for many dishes or as the main dish.

It can be arduous to find recipes that do not overshadow its taste. But, knowing how to use it and take advantage of its qualities, the dishes with shrimp are exquisite and fresh.

Some traditional dishes with shrimp are coconut shrimp, Dynamite roll, shrimp cocktail, shrimp ceviche, and shrimp pasta, but they are not all.

Why do people love shrimp?

The main reasons are simple: taste and versatility. Shrimp is a crustacean, a type of shellfish with a sweet and briny taste. It is very nutritious, full of vitamins and minerals, low in calories, and high in protein and healthy fats.

It is an adaptable ingredient since it can be cooked in various ways: broiling, poaching, frying, fermenting, grilling, sautéing, steaming, and stir-frying.

It can be the core in chowders, shrimp salads, creamy shrimp pasta, shrimp and rice bowl, Thai curries, and so on. It is also a great accompaniment to appetizers or snacks.

The widespread farming of shrimp makes it possible to find it year-round in grocery stores. Also, shrimp is one of those ingredients that can keep frozen in the fridge for a long time.

Shrimp recipes

The only way to enjoy the taste of shrimp is to use it as the main star of the dish. The recipes must not have strong flavors that can diminish their flavor.

You can sauté it with butter or olive oil and season it with salt, pepper, lemon juice, and pepper flakes. You can also try seafood seasoning to enhance its natural flavor.

If shrimp is part of a main dish, you can take advantage of its mild flavor and include species and seasoning that it easily absorbs. Shrimp provide freshness and a soft texture to any dish.

Try the following recipes and enjoy shrimp in different ways.

Shrimp Tacos with Cilantro Lime Rice

It is an easy dish with pineapple sauce, cilantro lime rice, and spicy shrimp.

Ingredients (4 servings):

Shrimp:

  • 12 peeled and deveined shrimp.
  • 1 tablespoon of the old bay spice blend.
  • Juice of a lime.

Cilantro Lime Rice:

  • 1 ½ cups of brown basmati rice.
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  • 2 1/4 cups of water.
  • 1 teaspoon of lime zest.
  • 2 tablespoons of lime juice.
  • ½ cup of chopped cilantro.

Pineapple sauce:

  • ½ diced pineapple.
  • ½ diced red onion.
  • ¼ cup of chopped cilantro.
  • 2 minced cloves of garlic.
  • ½ diced Serrano pepper.
  • Juice of a lime.
  • Salt, pepper, and cumin to taste.
  • Corn Tortillas.

Toppings:

  • Sour cream.
  • Hot sauce.
  • Fresh Cilantro.
  • Avocado

Preparation:

Shrimp:

  1. In a bowl, add old bay spice blend, lime juice, and shrimp. Marinate while you cook the rest of the taco components.

Rice:

  1. In a saucepan, pour olive oil and heat at medium-high temperature. Add rice and stir very well.
  2. Incorporate lemon zest and salt.
  3. Cook for 10 minutes, reduce the temperature and simmer for 15 minutes.
  4. Add lime juice and chopped cilantro. Set aside

Pineapple sauce:

  1. In a bowl, mix pineapple, red onion, cilantro, garlic, Serrano pepper, lime juice, salt, pepper, and cumin. Combine very well. Refrigerate.

Shrimp:

  1. Grill the shrimp for 4 minutes.

Tacos:

  1. Warm corn tortillas.
  2. Fill with shrimp and pineapple sauce.
  3. Add your preferred toppings.
  4. Serve with cilantro lime rice as a side dish.

Shrimp and rice salad

It is a fresh and colorful salad that you can cook for a light dinner.

Ingredients (4 servings):

  • 1 1/2 cups of cooked and cold rice.
  • 12 peeled and deveined shrimp.
  • 1/2 cup of diced celery.
  • 3 sliced green onions.
  • 2 tablespoons of chopped red bell pepper.
  • 1 cup of green peas.
  • 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt.
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper.
  • 1/2 teaspoon of celery seed.
  • 1/2 cup of mayonnaise.
  • 2 tablespoons of dill pickle juice.

Preparation:

  1. In a big saucepan, add enough water and boil it.
  2. Incorporate shrimp and simmer for 3 minutes. Take the shrimp out of the water and let them cool.
  3. Cut in half and reserve.
  4. In a bowl, add shrimp, celery, green onions, red bell pepper, and green peas. Combine all ingredients.
  5. Add salt, pepper, and celery seed. Stir.
  6. Incorporate rice, mayonnaise, and pickle juice.
  7. Mix very well.
  8. Serve cold.
