How to Make Dogs Love Their Food

September 30, 2021 By Yummiest Food Leave a Comment

As human beings, we know all too well about how tasty our foods should be. Should it not be cooked right or have poor taste, we may feel turned off from consuming our meals. The same sentiment can be applied to our favourite pets, such as our dogs. Dogs are not too dissimilar from us, as they can be picky eaters in their own right.

It all comes down to finding a delicate balance so that dogs can consume their meals without reservation. If your pet is not eating its food properly, perhaps the meals require a minor modification. Finding that delicate sweet spot isn’t impossible, but you’ll have to employ some tricks.

Use these following tips to make your dog love its food:

1. Check Their Health

While it might seem annoying that your dog does not want to eat, there could be underlying reasons at play. For example, if they actively choose not to eat a particular meal, it could result from an allergy. Dogs are just like us in some respects, in that their bodies cannot digest certain foods.

Always be sure to take your pet to the veterinarian when it is possible to do so. This will help ensure that their bodily functions are optimized and that nothing is going awry. Moreover, you’ll be able to determine what diet is the most appropriate for them to consume. Picky eating is an entirely different issue than being allergic to certain meals, after all!

2. Full Dishes

After a long day at work, we might inadvertently not pay attention to our dog’s immediate needs. This can result in us neglecting to care for them in the most obvious of ways. You may not feed them their meals at a certain time. Instead, you provide them with scraps. Not only can this turn the canine off, but it might not make them eat at all.

It is in your best interest to pay attention to what you are feeding your dog at all times. Make sure that their bowls are full so that they can get their daily nutrients and vitamins in. Only giving them scraps of food can make them feel unwanted, as well as not hungry at all.

3. Raw Dog Food

As mentioned previously, there are a number of dishes available that your dog will always take a liking to. Sometimes, the composition of these meals is what makes them instantly attractive to the canine. Raw dog food is one of those meal options, as it provides them with a comprehensive assortment of nutrients.

Available through suppliers like Just Raw Pet Food, this is one of the healthiest forms of food you can give your dog. Plus, a steady diet of raw dog food brings with it several health benefits as well. From a shinier coat to better digestive functions, raw dog food might stand out as one of your pet’s favourites.

4. Mixing Foods

Your dog’s dietician or veterinarian may recommend feeding the canine with a specific diet plan. These meals are usually comprised of a few key ingredients, all of which serve to create a wholesome dish. However, down the line, you may find that your dog simply does not care to eat the same meal again.

As long as they are comfortable with it, now might be the time to mix the two dishes together. You’ll have to gauge how much of each dish is going into the other for optimal effect. However, the resulting meal could be something worthwhile to consume. Plus, it might even become a new favourite for the dog overall!

5. Chicken Broth

Some meals may eventually come across as monotonous, especially if they have been consumed on a daily basis. However, that generic bowl of dog food can be taken to the next level by adding chicken broth. A new, savoury taste is all that it takes to get them going again in their diet.

6. Treats

While every dog certainly loves their treats, you should take stock of how much you are feeding them. In some cases, they may actually refuse to eat the provided dishes because they are simply waiting for their treats.

If you can, withhold the treats until a later time, so that they can focus on eating their meals first. It acts as a sort of reward system in that they are given their sweet treat after finishing up their food.

7. Higher Quality Foods

Many dog food manufacturers will create sustenance for your pet in a generic way. Even though this is not bad, it might not be of the highest quality. To ensure that your pet gets the right amount of nutrients in a preferable way, provide them with whole foods. This leads to a more sustainable diet for the long term!
