  • Smoking cigarettes

Traditional Treatment Options for Sleep Apnea

While there are a number of different ways to treat sleep apnea, the most common and traditional method is through the use of a CPAP machine. This machine forces air into your lungs while you sleep and helps to keep your airway open. While CPAP machines are very effective, they can be uncomfortable for some people to use and may take some time to get used to.

Natural Remedies to Treat Sleep Apnea

Sleep apnea is a sleep disorder that causes pauses in breathing or shallow breaths while you sleep. Breathing pauses can last from a few seconds to minutes. They may occur 30 times or more an hour. Typically normal breathing then starts again sometimes with a loud snort or choking sound.

Lifestyle changes:

Maintain a healthy weight  Excess weight increases tissue in the back of your throat, which can make it more likely to collapse during sleep and cause obstruction.

Avoid alcohol and sedatives.

Tips to Reduce Risk Factors for Sleep Apnea

There are many things you can do to reduce your risk factors for sleep apnea. Some of these tips include:

Avoiding alcohol and cigarettes: Alcohol and cigarettes are two major risk factors for sleep apnea. If you drink alcohol, be sure to limit yourself to no more than one drink per day. And if you smoke cigaret try to quit altogether.

Losing weight: Weight gain is a major risk factor sleep apnea. If you’re overweight or obese, losing even a small amount of weight can help reduce your risk.

Sleeping on your side: Sleeping on your back can make sleep apnea worse. If possible, try sleeping on your side instead. This can help keep your airway open while you sleep.
