A garlic keeper is one kind of container specifically made to preserve garlic bulbs. A good garlic keeper in your kitchen can ensure this preservation with its strong health properties, including the unique pungent aroma even after a long time.

This may confuse the functionality, but you must know that preservation doesn’t always mean keeping it in a place where even the air can’t touch it. These holes are there to keep limited air contact. Too much air and less air supply are not suitable for keeping the garlic bulbs sound. It saves the bulbs from drying out

When the garlic bulbs start sprouting, and the sprout is tiny, you can still use the garlic by cutting off the grown portion, but a fully sprouted garlic left no other way to use them rather than planting. A garlic bulb starts sprouting when it’s too old or get too much exposure to light, temperature or moisture. A garlic keeper can prevent all of them. The garlic keeper container can be made of terracotta, wood or ceramic, which prevents the bulbs from being too exposed to the heat of light. However, it doesn’t let the bulbs become sprouted, whatever their age is.

It prevents the growth of mould

The growth of mould in garlic is a widespread disastrous disease. This disease can destroy all the garlic kept in one place very fast, and it’s not safe to eat the garlic even if the mould touches only one bulb of the garlic. Penicillium hirsutum is behind the growth of this mould. Earlier I have mentioned that a garlic keeper container can be of so many things. Choosing a ceramic container would be the best choice among those materials rather than a wooden or terracotta container. The ceramic container keeps the moisture level limited, which prevents the growth of mould. The wooden container provides much moisture, which is suitable for the growth of mould. A Wooden or terracotta container is also okay if you can keep the container in a dry environment.

Preserves the pungent aroma

Every creature on this earth owns a unique quality that plays a significant role in differentiating them from others. Like this, you can quickly identify garlic for its pungent aroma. This aroma shouts its identity and originality. Garlic is also used to make medicines where this aroma plays a very significant role. So, the preservation of this aroma is essential. A garlic keeper preserves this aroma with great care. It doesn’t let the smell become dry-out or become spoiled by keeping the contact of the garlic with the outside elements ( light, heat, air) of the container very limited. However, a flawed maintenance system can make your garlic lose this aroma even if they are kept in a garlic keeper. So, you have to be careful about the maintenance procedure.
