Wine Pairing Tips for Perfect Date Night Dinners

April 20, 2023 By Yummiest Food Leave a Comment

Wine is one of the most exotic drinks all over the world. In fact, roughly 75% of adults love to drink wine.

And when it comes to celebrating a romantic date night with your significant other, what’s better than two glasses of wine and a candlelight dinner?

However, the kind of food that you pair with your wine is also important. While some wine connoisseurs are overly-strict about it, others prefer to be more experimental.

So if you’re looking for some great wine-pairing tips, then this is the perfect article!

  1. Pinot Noir with earthly flavours

Pinot Noir is considered to be the best kind of red wine in the wine market. So if you’re looking for food items to pair with this, then you must definitely choose dishes that have earthly ingredients like mushrooms and lentils.

For example, a mushroom and cheese pizza would work really well with Pinot Noir and Dolcetto.

Since these wines are full of depth and flavour, make sure to eat something that shines not just on the plate but also enhances the taste of the wine.

  1. Rosé with cheesy dishes

Cheese is an ingredient that can be used in almost every dish, right from bakery items to savouries.

But there are many different kinds of cheese with different tastes and textures. This versatility often becomes a problem when it comes to wine pairing.

But if you’re ever in doubt, then Rosé is the kind of wine that goes well with every kind of cheese-based dish.

The reason is that Rosé will give you a mixed taste of the acidity of white wine and the sweetness of red wine.

  1. Cabernet Sauvignon with red meat

This is one of the most popular Australian wines and is available in various kinds of blends like the California Cabernet, Bordeaux, and Bordeaux-style. All of these go best with juicy red meat like lamb and steak dishes.

The tannins present in the wines can easily cut through the fat and protein. These nutrients, in turn, soften the tannin flavour, and ultimately, you’re left with rich notes and a happy heart.

Sweet wines can also help to lighten the heaviness of the meat, especially if the red meat dish is cooked with a lot of sauces and dressings.

  1. Chardonnay with fish

If you’re a lover of seafood, particularly fish, then Chardonnay is the wine that you’d want to pair with it.

Dishes like swordfish or oysters in the sauce will taste best with silky white wines. And if you have a Chardonnay sourced directly from the vineyards of Australia, then there’s no better way to celebrate your date night!

  1. Champagne with salty food

Special wines like brut champagne and Spanish Cava are a little fruity and sweet. So if you pair them with sweet dishes or starters, your taste buds won’t feel that great.

But on the other hand, if you manage to pair them with something salty and savoury, like a packet of chips, or something deep-friend, like chicken wings, then you’ve got a great combination!

The bubbly wines will cut through the richness of the oil and salt and also retain their own flavours.

  1. Malbec with smoky dishes

If you’re having a barbecue, then it’s definitely a must to include some exotic wines! But here too, choosing the right kind of wine becomes important because barbecued dishes have a distinct, smoky flavour.

While the right kind of wine can enhance those flavours and make you crave more, the wrong wine will create a mess in your taste buds.

So if you’re even in confusion, go for a Malbec. Malbec is also smoky but has fruity flavours hidden, which can pair up well with smoked dishes.

  1. Prosecco with Prosciutto and Melon

If you’re looking for some appetizers to prepare for your date night, then prosciutto and melon skewers are an easy combination.

They taste amazing and take very little time to prepare. The wine that you’d want to pair up with this particular dish should ideally be Prosecco.

Since prosciutto has meaty flavours and melon is sweet in taste, the wine should be sparkling enough to balance out both these flavours. Therefore, Prosecco’s floral and sparkly flavours will take your experience to the next level!

Over to you…

Now that you know what dishes to pair with specific wines, you’ll know exactly what to order to impress your partner. And if you’re planning an at-home date, then it’s time to go shopping and pick out your favourites for the ultimate date night!
