Don’t Mind Too Much about Best-Before Dates
Sellers tend to tell us that we can’t eat the food any more when it passes the best-before date. But is it the truth? Actually it is just much of a recommendation.

We’d better make judgements based on some common sense whether it could last longer than what the label says.
Rest assured eating food after its best-before date is completely secure and feasible. Just make sure it still looks and smells good first.
Be Careful for Use-by Dates
As introduced, it’s absolutely ok to eat food after its best-before date, because that date is simply a recommendation from the manufacturer when the food is in its top quality. But use-by dates is a different conception and you must be more careful with it.
The use-by date is a critical point for you know after when food might be harmful to eat.
For meat, dairy or fish as well as other risky foods, we should definitely stay on the safe side. When they pass the use-by date, we must throw them out. Otherwise we could get food poisoned.
One thing to note though food does not change overnight after use-by date. 1-2 days after that is probably still fine. Just check with more care.
Cook or Freeze Food on the Way Out
If you find some of your food is on the way out, don’t waste it. You can cook it up so that it can be stored longer, even if your cooking simply means heating it in the microwave).
Or you can choose to store it in the freezer! What you may not know is that even the most unfreezeable food in your mind are likely completely freezable! Just you need to confirm that the food hasn’t really gone bad yet, because freezing won’t help on that.
Wrap Cheese in Porous Paper
People generally think the best way to keep cheese fresh is to wrap it up in a proper manner.
You’re right if you think you should be bundling it up, but you must take care what material you’re wrapping it in. Therefore, what material should you wrap cheese in?
The answer is simple, ie porous paper. For example baking paper, but not cling film, this way it can be breathable.
Wash Berries in Vinegar
Strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries… Whatever your favorite berries are, strawberries, blueberries, or raspberries, etc, wash them in vinegar and put them in the freezer.
This way bacteria on the fruit will be killed, and the chances of creature growing on it while it’s in the freezer are reduced.
Brush Lemon on Avocado
This is an old question: how long can avocados keep before they go off?

The best way to handle is to let avocados ripen outside the freezer. When it looks fine for eating, put it in your freezer until you are ready to eat it.
If you can’t finish the whole and have some left over, brush some lemon on the outside of the avocado to prevent it from being brown, and put in the fridge. Then you’ll find problem solved.
Store tomatoes outside the Freezer
Maybe you’ve heard millions of times already that don’t put tomatoes in the freezer, but still can’t accept it.
Keeping tomatoes outside your freezer and putting it somewhere cool will actually help them ripen and flavours to develop. However if there is no plan on eating them for the coming few days, you are still advised to put them in the freezer to stave off the ripening process.
