Dementia is a disease where the person goes through symptoms like insanity, memory loss, etc., which disrupts their regular life. Dementia can be a genetic issue or sometimes result from lifestyle changes.

Another common reason that can induce cognitive disease and lead to Dementia is food habits. Therefore, you should be aware of food items to prevent Alzheimer’s Dementia. This blog will talk about an Alzheimer’s diet that you can follow to avoid the illness.

Besides, we will also mention food items that people suffering from this illness should avoid-

1.  Nuts

Nuts like almonds, peanuts, cashews, and walnuts are loaded with vitamins, healthy fats, magnesium, etc. This can promote good health. Moreover, nuts can help fight off or prevent Dementia.

Studies have shown that consuming nuts regularly reduces brain inflammation, preventing memory loss in old age.

2.  Berries

3.  Leafy Greens

Green leafy vegetables are rich in vitamin B and B9, which can reduce depression, thereby preventing the cause of Dementia. Some of the leafy greens rich in vitamin B and B9 are kale, spinach, Swiss Chard, Collard Greens etc.

If you don’t enjoy eating these greens as salads, add them to soups or dips.

4.  Seeds

Seeds like pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds etc., are very rich in antioxidants, zinc, vitamins, omega 3. Adding them to your diet regularly will help prevent signs of Dementia.

You can have these seeds as snacks or add them to your salads.

5.  Spices

Spices are rich in Polyphenols, a compound known for promoting good memory. Adding spices like cumin, cinnamon, cloves, and sage into your meals not just tastes good but also is good for preventing Alzheimer’s Dementia.

6.  Omega 3S

Doctors recommend Omega 3 fatty acids to keep your brain cells healthy. Some of the sources of Omega 3 fatty acids are- fish like Salmon, mackerel, tuna and other food items like flax seeds, olive oil etc.

Experts recommend taking 200mg of fatty acids with DHA for promoting good brain health and preventing Dementia. But, it’s best to consult your doctor/dietician for the appropriate dose before you start taking it.

7.  Cruciferous Veggies

Cruciferous Veggies like broccoli, sprouts, cauliflowers etc., are rich in Vitamin B and carotenoids. These substances can help reduce Dementia and cognitive decline. You should try to include cruciferous vegetables regularly in your meals. You can also have them in smoothies or soups.

The above mentioned seven food items are beneficial for preventing Alzheimer’s Dementia. Try to consume them as regularly as possible if your family history includes Dementia.

Moreover, if you are suffering from heart disease, diabetes, obesity, or blood pressure, you are likely to develop Dementia. Hence, include nuts, berries, leafy greens, omega 3 and other veggies regularly in your diet.
