I’d never tried meal delivery services until a couple of years ago, when I realized that I would go broke if I didn’t find an alternative to my Uber Eats habit. Since then, I’ve tried several different options, with varying success. The thing about meal delivery services is that they don’t have to tick all the boxes; they just have to tick the right boxes. That’s pretty much what happened when I tried Clean Eatz Kitchen. They may not have been ultra-gourmet or fresh, but their dishes were still tasty, convenient, and fairly imaginative – just what I was hoping for.
Since I was testing the service with this review in mind, I made sure to try something from every category. From Keto to the high protein meal plan, I found the meals to be consistently enjoyable. There were a few misses, but nothing more serious than a dry chicken breast or tough green beans. That’s to be expected, though, so it didn’t really faze me.
Pricing-wise, I thought they provided good value for money. They’re on the more affordable side compared to other meal delivery services, which is what I usually go for; my meals ended up averaging around $8 a pop. Another plus was the fact that I didn’t have to commit to a subscription; I could just order the meals online, and get them delivered within 3 business days.
What types of meal plans does Clean Eatz Kitchen offer?
I don’t follow any particular kind of diet, but I’m willing to try just about anything (unless it contains eggplant – long story). I expected the usual mix of offerings, from weight-loss meal plans to high-protein dishes, and that’s what I got. One thing that pleasantly surprised me was the fact that they rotate their menu every month; since I received deliveries over the course of several weeks, I loved getting to pick from new options.
Keto meal plan
I’m a bit of a carb fiend, so this wasn’t exactly the category I was most excited about. I have to say, though, that the dishes were interesting enough for me to not care that they were keto. Most of the dishes were structured around meat, veggies, and cheese or some kind of sauce to add plenty of healthy fat. The vegetables were a bit average, but the meats were tender and juicy, which is all I need to be happy. Highlights included the Nashville Hot Chicken, Chicken Bacon Alfredo, and Szechuan Beef.
Breakfast meal plan
I’m not a big breakfast person, but if you’re offering me a well-rounded meal featuring potatoes or cheese in the morning, count me in. The portions were a bit large for my taste, but that’s probably just me; if you like breakfast you’d probably call them “hearty”. The Queso Beef Breakfast Bowl was a hit, as was the Loaded Hashbrown Bowl.
Gluten-free meal plan
I’ll be honest here – when I see the “gluten-free” label, I think about really dense bread. Fortunately, Clean Eatz Kitchen has a ton of dishes that don’t include bread, so they actually had some pretty fantastic gluten-free options. By the way, you’ll see some overlap among certain meal plans; for instance, plenty of the keto meals happen to be gluten-free, so they’re in this category as well. Beef with Potatoes was a classic, and the Chicken Adobo good too (although I did find myself reaching for the Tabasco). The Basic Steak and Rice meal was a bit dry, but this seemed to be a one-off.
Low-carb meal plan
There weren’t a lot of options here when I was ordering from Clean Eatz Kitchen, but I wonder if they intermittently offer more low-carb options as they rotate the menu. The only meals available for the low-carb meal plan were the Chipotle Breakfast Bowl and the Keto Cheesy Beef Taco, which were both pretty good.
Weight loss meal plan
I wasn’t looking forward to this one, since I was anticipating a lot of chicken-and-rice-based dishes. There were definitely loads of meals with chicken in them, but they had plenty of variety. From Cashew Chicken to Jamaican Jerk Chicken, I never got tired of what I was eating. And let’s not forget the Cilantro Lime Steak! If these meals were lower-calorie than their other options, I certainly couldn’t tell; they were just as appetizing and filling as any of the others.
High-protein meal plan
I may not be a gym bro, but I do love my meats; that’s mainly why I was excited to try this category. There were some repeats with extra meat added (like the Cilantro Lime Steak), but there were also some dishes I hadn’t tried yet, like the XP Chicken and Waffle Fry Nachos and the XP Chicken Parm. That last one was underwhelming, but I’m not a big pasta person so maybe that dish was set up to fail. Other than that, I enjoyed digging into their high-protein meals.
Pizza
I’ll eat pizza at literally any time of day or night, so when I saw that Clean Eatz Kitchen offered pizzas I couldn’t wait to try them. Then I saw that they used cauliflower crusts, and I got slightly less excited. Even so, I decided to give them a chance, and I’m glad I did. You see, cheese can cover a multitude of sins, and that’s exactly what it did with these pizzas. The crusts weren’t that bad, and while most pizzas I eat have more cheese, that’s kind of the point – these are supposed to be healthier than regular pizzas. The BBQ Chicken Pizza wasn’t my style, but that’s just personal preference; the meat was tender and they didn’t skimp on the toppings. And of course, the old standbys (Cheese and Pepperoni pizza) hit the spot, cauliflower crust and all.
The takeaway
If you’re looking for a reasonably priced meal delivery service that will give you consistently tasty meals, Clean Eatz Kitchen should be on your radar. I enjoyed trying out their meal plans, and I’ll definitely be using their service again.
