Here’s a quick and easy recipe that requires next to no prep time and very little effort to make. Not only do these delectable truffles explode with flavor as they melt in your mouth; they make use of non-psychoactive cannabis compounds and their well-documented therapeutic potential to alleviate mood as well as promote general well-being.
There are a surprising number of ways to make use of terpenes like Apple Fritter, Blue Dream, or your favorite-tasting strain in everyday cooking. In this post, I’ll show you one way you can use both CBD and terpenes not only for their health-positive properties, but to enhance the flavor of everything from quick snacks to decadent treats.
Prepping the Ingredients
1 cup coconut cream
- 1 tbsp vegan butter (such as Earth Balance, I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter or Wayfare Whipped
- 320g dark chocolate, chopped
- 1/4th cup light brown sugar
- 1/4tsp limonene isolate (such as True Blue’s Tangerine Terpenes)
- 2 droppers CBD isolate (best if sourced from orange peels instead of cannabis or hemp, such as in Citroso CBD)
In order to make these truffles vegan-friendly, we use coconut cream instead of heavy cream — gaining the bonus of the former being tastier, healthier and much less fatty in the process. We also make use of the citrusy terpene limonene for their health benefits and flavor, instead of using artificial orange flavoring or extracts with non-natural preservatives.
Prepping the Toppings
- 1/4th cup hazelnuts, chopped
- 1/4th cup walnuts, chopped
- 4-5 candied orange slices, minced
If you’d like to make your own candied orange slices, it takes less than 25 minutes to do. Simply 2¼ cups sugar with 2 cups of water in a medium saucepan or Dutch oven over medium-high heat and bring to a boil.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and add in 10-12 medium sized orange slices. Allow the slices to cook for 20 minutes, turning as needed until translucent. Then turn the heat to low and let cook for another 5-10 minutes, or until the slices are completely tender.
Use tongs to remove the orange slices and place them on a parchment paper-covered baking pan. Once cooled, you’re all set!
Making & Serving the Truffles
First, we prep the ganache. Heat the coconut cream in a saucepan until warm to touch, remove from heat and stir in the dark chocolate. Incorporate the vegan butter and continue until smooth. Finally, add the brown sugar, CBD and terpenes before combining thoroughly using a whisk. Transfer to a bowl and allow to cool before covering and chilling in the fridge, ideally overnight.
With all your ingredients in order, making and serving a batch of truffles takes less than 10 minutes, making them an excellent choice for entertaining unexpected guests or whipping up a quick snack when anyone in the house gets the munchies.
Once the ganache is thoroughly cooled and solid, use a melon baller, cookie scooper or tablespoon to portion out 10oz bites. Of course, they can be larger based on preference. Roll the bites into balls using your hands and place them onto a baking tray lined with either wax or parchment paper.
Combine the hazelnuts, walnuts and candied oranges in a shallow bowl, and roll the chocolate balls in the toppings until well coated. Bon appetit!
