Healthy Recipes Of Homemade Cat Treats

October 10, 2022 By Yummiest Food Leave a Comment

Treats are mainly aimed at improving health, preventing possible illnesses or boosting immunity, however they also could contribute to the training of a pet. Nowadays, the choice of quality snacks is difficult to make despite the large number of offers. Therefore, the best option possible is to make a healthy treat yourself, which is not as difficult as you might think. In addition, it should be mentioned that the biscuits are not a meal replacement but a supplement. This way, we have put together three simple recipes of cat treats that you could make at home.

cat

As you may know, most cats, especially purebreds, are very vulnerable to various illnesses so that their health needs to be monitored carefully. However, it is not always possible to foresee diseases, even by regular visits to the veterinarian. In order to determine the susceptibility to genetic diseases you can have a cat breed test. This way you can learn about the genes and mutations that are responsible for your cat’s unique appearance and detect diseases at an early stage, it will also help to make a personalized approach to your cat’s health.

Key components of cat treats

Unfortunately, many cat treats that can be found on the market contain ingredients that are not particularly good for the animal. Some of them can include ingredients with a very high caloric value or with a high fat content. If your cat only eats dry food, it probably gets more of these ingredients than its body needs. You should therefore consider providing him with low-fat treats, making them yourself. If you know what your cat’s favorite foods are, it will be easier for you to choose the right ingredients and make a healthy and nutrient-rich treat.

Before moving further to the homemade cat cookies recipes, let’s quickly go through the products we are going to use. It is best to choose simple ingredients which contain protein and healthy amino acids. For example, we suggest using wholemeal flour as a carbohydrate insead of all purpose flour, poultry instead of red meat, white fish and olive oil.

Cat cookies with fish

The recipe is based on canned fish. Pink salmon is recommended but it can be replaced with tuna or salmon, the important thing is to read carefully the contents before buying the canned fish to be sure that it does not contain oil.

cookies

240 g canned fish

240g wholemeal flour

1 egg

Cooking

  • Puree the fish with a blender along with the juice from the can.
  • Combine the mixture with one egg and a couple of cups of whole-wheat flour. The finished dough should be slightly sticky and soft.
  • Roll out the dough to 0.5 cm thickness and cut out with a mold or a knife.
  • Place the cookies on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes at 180 °C.
  • The finished cookies are best stored in a glass jar or airtight container at room temperature.

Cat cookies with chicken

200 g chicken/beef liver

150g oatmeal

1 egg

1/3 tsp olive oil

  • Cut the boiled chicken into bite-sized pieces.
  • If you are using a blender, add 1/3 tablespoon of oil, an egg and continue mixing.
  • Once all the above ingredients are mixed, gradually add the oat flakes, continuing to whisk to make a homogeneous dough.
  • Roll out the dough with a rolling pin to shape it.
  • Place the cookies in a preheated oven at 200 C for 20 minutes.

Veg biscuits for cats

Although cats are carnivorous animals, vegetables can also be part of their diet. They can also be given to the cat in the form of biscuits.

Ingredients

1 cup whole wheat flour

1 grated carrot

1 pear

1 egg

2 tablespoons olive oil

Cooking

  • Grate the carrots and chop the pear.
  • Mix the previous vegetables with the egg and oil.
  • Add flour and continue mixing. Pour in a little water if necessary to make the dough soft.
  • Roll out the dough with a rolling pin, cut the biscuits and preheat the oven to 200 C.
  • Place the snacks on a baking tray and bake the vegan biscuits for 20 minutes.

Any of these cat treat recipes can be modified or supplemented according to your cat’s taste and preferences. However, we want to remind you again that the treat should not become a staple food, as our goal is to pamper or encourage the cat, it shouldn’t eat cookies on a regular basis. Try making these treats for your cat or take them with you as a gift whenever you are invited to dinner at a home where there is a furry pet, we are sure pets will appreciate them.
