When it comes down to game day, there are going to be a few things on your mind. The team that your coach has put together, how they look like they’ll fair against your opponents and your overall odds of winning. However, another thought that may well cross your mind will be that of what food you should eat while watching. Everyone gets passionate about sport, to the point it can be difficult to watch at times, but that shouldn’t take away from the fact that the real reason people do tend to watch it is for enjoyment, so enjoyable food should go hand in hand with this.
Regardless of what you’re watching, be it the Superbowl, March Madness, NBA Finals or the Stanley Cup, there is some good food that you can eat and good drinks to have on the side as well. The below is a guide on how to prepare the perfect game day food.
Finger Food Is Essential
There is a lot going on when it comes to watching sports. Take NFL, for example. There are so many different stats and techniques involved such as yardage, defensive points, turnover margin and time of possession, that you are too engrossed in considering which NFL stats matter the most to focus on the food you are eating. This goes hand in hand with the ability to cheer and boo as much as you deem necessary throughout the game. As such, regardless of what you are planning on eating, finger food is always an absolute must.
Consider the likes of chicken wings, nachos, burgers, fries and tacos when it comes to ordering game-day food. These are both parts delicious and easy to eat while watching your favorite sport.
What Should You Drink?
Beer is always a safe bet when it comes to sport as the two seem to go hand in hand like wine and cheese. The taste of beer also seems to go well with the finger foods mentioned above.
That being said, not everybody is a fan of the gassy taste of beer and so you may want to consider having some game-day cocktails instead. By using the right blends of ingredients, you’ll get to experience a wide variety of different flavors and you’ll be able to mix drinks so that the colors match those of the team you’re rooting for.
Dessert Anyone?
Of course, no game day is fully complete without something sweet. A fan favorite is creating decorative cupcakes with the logos and colors of the team you support. If you are struggling for time then a local bakery will always be able to do this for you instead. There’s also always the option of a “smash cake” that has the colors of the team you’re playing against. These can be a lot of fun as you and your friends can tear through this cake, a nice representation of what your team will be doing on the pitch but with the added bonus of getting a slice of cake at the end of it. And obviously, no dessert is ever complete without a delicious dollop of ice cream.
