Candy-Based Recipes to Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth

July 31, 2021 By Yummiest Food Leave a Comment

Everyone has experienced the exhilarating feeling of wanting a sweet treat but not having any nearby. Making some candy or desserts at home is often a better option than running out and buying some candy or desserts from the store.

There are many recipes that use ingredients such as sugar, honey, chocolate chips, and more in order to satisfy your cravings for sweets!

This article will discuss several ways you can satisfy your sweet tooth with these delicious recipes made from candy-based ingredients.

Homemade Peanut Brittle

Homemade peanut brittle is one of the simplest and most delicious candy-based recipes. This recipe only requires a few ingredients, including butter, sugar, brown sugar, honey, and peanuts. You can also use other nuts in this type of brittle if you choose to do so!

Ingredients:

2 cups of sugar

½ cup of corn syrup

¼ teaspoon baking soda

½ pound roasted, salted peanuts

Five tablespoons of butter or margarine

Instructions:

Combine the sugar, salt, and honey in a large saucepan. Stir occasionally over medium heat until it reaches 275 degrees Fahrenheit on a candy thermometer or makes a hard crack when dropped into cold water. Add the nuts to the bottom of an ungreased baking sheet lined with parchment paper (or use foil). Pour mixture onto peanuts spreading evenly across the pan ¾ inch thick. Place more peanuts at the edges where the mixture is thinner than the center so that it will cool quicker for brittle texture after cooling completely. Bake at 300 F for 25 minutes or until golden brown – stir every five minutes during cooking time as well as again while cooling to keep the mixture from sticking to the pan.

After cooling completely, break into pieces and store in an airtight container or package for gifts. Makes about 18 ounces of candy.

English Toffee Candy

Ingredients:

1 cup butter or margarine

¼ teaspoon of salt

⅓ cup sugar plus ¾ teaspoon corn syrup (for a less sweet toffee candy) OR ⅔ cups granulated sugar (more typical for English Toffee Candy)

4 ounces (milk or semi-sweet) chocolate chips

1 cup pecans or almonds

Directions:

Melt ½ of the butter with the sugar over low heat; constantly stir until it begins to turn light brown around the edges. Remove from heat before adding milk mixture. Pour this into an ungreased 13″ x 18″ pan and let cool. Melt the remaining butter, adding ¼ cup of sugar to it; pour over the cooled mixture in the pan.

Put this aside while cooking chocolate chips according to package directions with a few tablespoons of water or milk. Pour melted chocolate onto the buttered sugar layer on the bottom of the cake pan and refrigerate for about an hour before cutting it into pieces (you may want to use a wet knife).

Homemade Hard Candy Recipe

Ingredients:

2 1/4 cups of sugar

Red and Purple gel food coloring

1 cup of light corn syrup

Two teaspoons cherry, apple, or grape flavoring

Directions:

Place the sugar and light corn syrup in a saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium-low heat, constantly stirring until all of the sugar has dissolved.

Add food coloring as desired; stir in flavoring. Cook for five minutes or until mixture reaches between 300°F – 320°F on a candy thermometer (it will not appear to be boiling).

Add mixture to a sheet pan or cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Let cool, and break into pieces.
