Top Foods To Include In Recipes For Better Eye Health

July 12, 2021 By Yummiest Food Leave a Comment

Like many others in my generation, I was told to eat carrots as a kid to improve my eyesight. My mother seemed to think that raw carrots would magically fix my negative five prescription. I really wanted to be able to ditch the glasses, and so I ate my fair share of carrots. Unsurprisingly, I wear glasses to this day.

That being said, there is truth to the idea that carrots are good for the eyes. They’re not going to improve your eyesight in any noticeable way, but along with some other specific food types, they contribute to eye health.

If you don’t like the glasses you’ve always worn, you can now buy glasses easily online from GlassesUSA.com. You can even use their handy tool to try them on to see how they’ll look on your face. World renowned chef and author, Sandra Young OD, has teamed-up with GlassesUSA.com to share recipes and eye health tips.

When crafting recipes for better eye health, include the following food types.

Leafy Greens

The good news for salad lovers is that leafy greens are good for eye health, with plenty of Vitamin C as well as other nutrients. Kale, spinach, and cabbage are all excellent ingredients, and can be combined in a smoothie if you want to drink in the nutrients.

Fish

It is well-known that fish have Omega-3 aplenty in them. Omega-3 is great for health in general and eye health in particular. You can get Omega-3 fatty acids from salmon, tuna, trout, mackerel, herring, and other fish. They go great in a salad, so add them to your leafy greens and you’ll have the beginnings of a very balanced meal.

Nuts, Legumes, and Seeds

You can level up the salad by adding nuts, legumes, and seeds. In particular, walnuts, Brazil nuts, and cashews, and lentils are great for eye health. Chia seeds, flax seeds, and hemp seeds are also great. The best part about ingredients like flax seeds is that you can put them in yoghurt or include them in a smoothie and you’ll get the nutrients without having to compromise taste.

Citrus Fruits

The Vitamin C in citrus fruits makes them great for eye health. While most people associate oranges with Vitamin C, lemons and other citrus fruits are packed just as full of it. The subtle addition of orange and lemon into a salad can actually be delicious.

Recipes for eye health

There is obviously so much you can do with the above ingredients to create recipes that are excellent for eye health. Go ahead and put all of it into a salad or healthy turkey chili recipe if that sounds good to you or. But why is eye health important?

Eye health isn’t about being able to see slightly better. On the contrary, it is about keeping your eyes in good shape as you get older, so that cataracts are less likely to form and your eyes won’t start deteriorating.

Remember that foods cannot eliminate hereditary conditions, so if eye health issues run in the family, you should see a professional rather than changing your diet.

Eye health is important, especially as you grow older. Use the above foods in recipes and get all the nutrients you need.
